When

March 22-29, 2025

Where

Xinalani is a Yoga Retreat Center south of Puerto Vallarta, but we’re taking over a little corner of it for Pilates in March. Accommodations are right on the water, all with either ocean or jungle views and sounds. Xinalani is accessible only by boat (Don’t worry! We’re arranging transportation!) so it is quiet and isolated.

How Much

We have pricing ranging from budget-savvy options for folks who want the getaway but are less interested in amenities, to luxurious for folks who want a little more alone time in comfort with their retreat. Click here for specifics!

Payment Schedule and Cancellation Policy

4A $500 non-refundable deposit holds your spot upon registration. Fifty percent of your total is due by 9/1/24, with the remainder due by 11/1/24. Failure to meet these deadlines may result in your spot being given to someone on the waitlist and a forfeiture of your payments thus far. If you pay in full by  7/1/24, you will receive transport to and from the Puerto Vallarta airport free (a $115 discount), subtracted from your resort accommodation total.

Cancellation policy:

$500 deposit is non-refundable. Full payment including the deposit will be refunded by Vitality if the retreat is canceled by Vitality prior to December 6, 2024. Refunds for other reasons will be as follows:

  • 70% of amount paid if canceled by October 1, 2024
  • 50% of amount paid if canceled by November 1, 2024
  • 25% of amount paid if canceled by December 1, 2025
  • No refunds will be issued  after January 1, 2025

There will be absolutely no refunds for any changes in the retreat schedule on the part of the organizers or the attendees. Should you not use any portion of the retreat or change it in any way, you will bear full responsibility for any additional costs and will not be refunded for any portion of the retreat or any item you do not use.

What should I know up before making a decision:

  • Cost of the retreat covers the following: 7 night stay including taxes, transportation to and from the Puerto Vallarta airport, two pilates mat classes daily (Melanie and Jenn S teaching) plus a wonderful beach and tons of wildlife sightings. Cost also covers 3 hot meals a day, plus access to homemade granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, tea and coffee.
  • Prices do not cover the following: gratuities (recommended $20 per night for retreat staff + 10-15% for any other services), spa treatments, excursions, bar drinks, airfare.
  • Accommodations are spacious, lovely and luxurious as well as being indoor/outdoor. They are built on stilts with palm-thatched roofs. They all have hot water. Wi-fi is available but can be spotty.
  • There are no roads but lots of stairs! Really a lot of stairs. This place is nowhere near accessible. If you are unable to go up and down stairs, this is not a good choice.
  • Xinalani is in an isolated section of the coast with no road access, so this is truly a retreat. There are things to do and we’ll plan some excursions but don’t expect easy access to the city.
  • Food is locally sourced vegetables, fruits, chicken, and seafood. Vegan and gluten-free options are available. We all have found the meals delicious and ample. There are small bars and restaurants in the village on the beach next door to Xinalani worth exploring as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get there?
To reach Xinalani, you fly into Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Included in the cost of the retreat is your transportation from PVR to Xinalani. From the airport, you will meet a van which will drive you 15 minutes to the dock. The boat rides up onto the beach and they will help you step out into the water to walk up the beach.Xinalani is a short walk from the landing beach. Xinalani will handle your baggage

What are the accommodations like?

You can check the retreat center’s website here. All rooms have mosquito netting around the bed, a comforter and extra blanket, a side table with light, a lock box for your valuables, hot water, soap/shampoo/conditioner, electricity, wi-fi, and a place to store your things. Beyond that, the exact details depend on the room. All rooms are open to the outside and may get visitations from critters, but there is nothing dangerous there. You cannot store food in your room but there is a locked cabinet in the dining area you can use. If it’s at all cool in the evening, Xinalani provides hot water bottles. There are lots of stairs because the accommodations are right on a bluff. Some rooms are farther down the hill close to the beach and the restaurant but far away from the studios. Other rooms are up the hill close to the studios, but farther away from the beach and restaurant. The stairs are well lit although Xinalani recommends carrying a flashlight in the evening. There are no roads in or out of the retreat center, but there are villages to the north and south that you can walk to.

I have a question about the retreat that isn’t answered here. Who do I ask?

Fill out our contact form here. You might also want to check Xinalani’s FAQ and Xinalani’s About Us.

How do I get there?

You will need to fly into Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Airfare is not covered in the cost of the retreat. You should plan to arrive in Puerto Vallarta no later than 3:30 PM on 3/22 and leave no earlier than 11 AM on 3/29. We will arrange round trip transportation between the airport and the retreat. Xinalani will send you specific details about the transportation the day before the retreat begins. The $115 charge for that is a required part of the cost of the retreat unless you pre-pay the entire amount by 7/1.

The trip to and from the airport involves a van and a boat and takes about an hour total. You should also plan to wear shoes and clothing that will allow you to step off the boat into the water upon arrival at Xinalani. Xinalani understands that you have to get through customs upon arrival and they take that into consideration when scheduling your transportation. However, if your flight is delayed past a certain point, it is not safe for the boat to take you to Xinalani. If that happens, Xinalani will send you new instructions for transportation the next day and you’ll need to spend the night in Puerto Vallarta at your own expense. Once you’ve set your airline arrangements, you need to send the airline, flight numbers, and arrival/departure times to Melanie at [email protected]. If you’re spending time in Puerto Vallarta before the retreat and need transportation from the city rather than from the airport contact Melanie for details on how to arrange that.

What’s the weather like?
Normally at this time of year the evenings are mid-high 60s and the days are mid 80s, sunny and clear. Rain is a possibility but rare and when it does rain it’s a tropical rain: warm, heavy, and then done.
Can I bring my partner?
Sure we’d love to have them if space allows, but they will still need to pay the per person rate for whatever accommodation you have chosen.
Can I bring my kids?
Not unless they’re 18 or over.
Can I bring my pets?

No.

Can I bring a friend who has never done Pilates?
Yes! We can accommodate all levels as long as they can walk up all of the stairs at Xinalani.
What kinds of classes will be available?
There will be at least 2 different Pilates classes a day.
Do I have to attend all the classes?
Absolutely not! This is your vacation and it’s up to you how you spend your time. The classes are there for you but are not required.
How many people will there be?
Around 25, but there will also be other retreats happening in the facility so we will be sharing communal space for meals, pool, beach time, etc.
What’s included/not included?
Cost of the retreat covers the following: 7 night stay including taxes, 3 meals daily, transportation to and from the Puerto Vallarta airport, three classes daily.

Prices do not cover gratuities (recommended $20 per night for Xinalani staff and 10-15% for all others), spa treatments, excursions, bar drinks, airfare.

Do I need a passport?

Yes.

Do I need a visa?

Not if you’re a US citizen.

Do I need any shots to travel to Mexico?
There are none required, but Covid, tetanus, typhoid and Hepatitis A are all recommended.
What should I bring?

Clothes for any sort of activities you want to participate in, including Pilates and swim clothes, warm clothes for evenings, flashlight/headlamp, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, sunglasses, sun hat, shoes for hiking, water shoes, refillable water bottle, cash in dollars and pesos for tips and credit card to pay for excursions, spa services, and drinks, alarm clock, binoculars, white clothing for the Friday night dinner, a mat (if you want to use your own), chargers for any device, small shoulder bag for excursions.

What shouldn’t I bring?
American Express card (Xinalani doesn’t take this card), hairdryers (outlets can’t handle them), soap, shampoo, towels (these are all provided and Xinalani likes us to use their soap and shampoo)
Should I get travel insurance?

We recommend it, but it is up to you. Check with your airline during booking regarding a more flexible ticket. Additionally, here are some travel insurance options recommended by Consumer Advocates 2024.

What kinds of spa services are available?
A variety of massages and skin care. On our last four retreats we have all been really happy with the services we received.
What excursions are available?

You can find all of the activities offered by Xinalani here

Kayaks and snorkels are available for free at Xinalani that we can use at any time. You can take surfing or SUP lessons or rent a board. Xinalani will usually set up one trip into Puerto Vallarta for a day of sightseeing and shopping via the boat taxi. Salsa dance lessons are available. You can have a beach bonfire or sweat lodge for a fee. You are welcome to set up any of these activities on your own or with friends when you arrive.

Xinalani will set up some of the above activities with sign up sheets over the course of the week. We are also likely to do one or two group excursions. In 2024, we had access to  the following excursions:

  • Jungle trek to Waterfall
  • Canopy Zip line Adventure
  • Cooking Classes
  • Whale Watching
  • Swim with Dolphins

Are we going to do any excursions as a group?

Probably! We will send out a questionnaire to gauge interest for group excursions. Excursions are an extra cost that must be paid for directly to Xinalani during the retreat week.

Can I prorate the cost and come late or leave early?
Only if you have someone who wants to share that time with you. Otherwise, you are certainly welcome to come late or leave early if you need to, but you will be liable for the full cost of the retreat.
If I’m not coming directly from the airport or if I’m going somewhere else after the retreat, do I still have to pay for airport transport?
Yes. Xinalani requires that cost to be included in the retreat cost. However, if you pre-pay your full amount by 7/1/24, you receive $115 off the cost of the retreat which covers your airport transport.
What if I’m coming early to Puerto Vallarta or staying on longer? Any recommendations? And do I have to go to and from the airport if I’m not flying in or out at that time?

If you arrive in PV early, you can meet the boat to Xinalani at the pier just in front of Hospital San Javier and Galerías Vallarta. You will need to provide Melanie with a pick up time that corresponds to Xinalani’s time window for transportation. You can also get off at the pier in town on the way back instead of going all the way to the airport. The cost is still the same.

Puerto Vallarta

Best lodging: Marina Vallarta and downtown

Things to do:

Visit Villarouse(a Mexican Hacienda) for a Tequila Tasting experience in Marina Vallarta. If interested send an e-mail to [email protected]

Walk downtown at the Malecon

Take a tour to Los Arcos for snorkeling

Shopping in the flea market downtown

Eat street tacos 😂

What’s the food like?
Xinalani uses locally grown fruits and vegetables, as well as chicken and fresh fish. They don’t have beef or pork. If you have special needs, they can accommodate you. Meal times are set, but there is also granola, fruit, coffee and tea set out starting at 7 AM. Please fill out the survey you will be receiving about any food preferences. We found the food ample, diverse, and delicious.
Can Xinalani accommodate special diets?

Yes.

Is there alcohol at Xinalani?
Yes. There’s a bar just below the restaurant with a beautiful view of the beach and a friendly bartender.
Is there WiFi?
Yes. Xinalani warns that it can be spotty but we had no trouble with it in 2024.
Can I drink the water?
No, but bottled water will be provided, as well as water stations all over the facility for refilling your bottles, including in your room.
Can I bring my own food?
No. These are outdoor facilities with critters and food will attract them. If you have food that you must bring or medications/supplements that are sweetened there is a special cabinet in the dining area where they can be stored. Do not store them in your room.
Are there laundry facilities?
No, but you can wash things out in your sink and there are racks to hang laundry. Keep in mind, this is a tropical environment so things don’t dry quickly. You can also give your things to Xinalani to be laundered for an additional fee.
Can I stay at Xinalani longer than a week?

Probably, yes! Xinalani extends a generous discount to retreat guests who want to lengthen their stay, so as long as there’s an available room, you can stay longer. Please get in touch with Xinalani directly at [email protected]
