What is Pilates?
Pilates was invented by Joseph H. Pilates during World War I. Pilates begins with core stabilization, when abdominal muscles are engaged and strengthened to properly maintain the spine. Regular Pilates training will lead to increased muscle balance throughout the body and improve your overall strength and flexibility. Pilates tones your body and also leads to increased energy, circulation, improved posture and healthier joints.

I have practiced Pilates before, but am new to Vitality, how do I start?
If you have studied Pilates at another studio and would like to begin training at Vitality, we recommend you call and speak to a member of our staff about your experience level. We will be able to evaluate how your previous training will fit into our class structure and recommend the class or package that is right for you.

What is a Reformer?
Vitality Pilates is one of the only studios in Seattle to offer group Reformer classes. Differing from Pilates on a mat, Reformer Pilates utilizes resistance equipment to tone and challenge your body, allowing you to strengthen core muscles groups through a variety of resistance strategies. The Reformer aids beginning level students in safe strength training and is also capable of challenging intermediate and advanced students.

What if I have an injury?
If you have an injury that is currently bothering you or are concerned about aggravating an old injury please call and speak with our staff. Pilates is often used in rehabilitation and training may improve your condition. Once we have learned about your current condition we will be able to guide you to the appropriate training routine.

Do you offer Pilates based physical therapy in addition to training?
We offer physical therapy at our Mt. Baker and Phinney Ridge locations. Michele Benedisuk, MA, PT believes it is essential to treat patients holistically, with a one on one approach to achieve lasting progress and prevent future injuries.

Pilates based physical therapy maximizes your healing process and physical recovery time by combining the principals of Pilates with physical medicine. When incorporating Pilates based training with other physical therapy treatments, the body tends to respond rapidly, resulting in more fluid, pain free movements while improving your overall bio mechanical stability and rehabilitation.
