What is Pilates?

Pilates is a comprehensive system of relating to our bodies, invented by Joseph H. Pilates. Core stabilization is a primary principle of Pilates, wherein abdominal muscles are strengthened to properly maintain the spine. When taught with precision, each body will come into its finest alignment by retraining both mind and muscles to function more efficiently.  Regular Pilates training will lead to increased energy, circulation, flexibility and strength; improve your posture and the health of your joints, and back.

What is the difference between Equipment and Apparatus Pilates?

Our equipment classes focus on the Reformer, Cadillac and Matt repertoire of exercises.  The apparatus classes focus on the Chair, Props and Matt repertoire or exercises.   The equipment classes utilize the larger “machinery” while the apparatus utilizing the smaller Pilates pieces. The classes are essential equal in challenge and diversity.  Mixing the classes in your weekly schedule provides variety and keeps your work out fresh.   

I've never done Pilates, how do I start?

If you’ve never done Pilates before, you can begin with private lessons, our 7-week progressive Introductory class series or a combination of both.  We’d love to help you find the schedule and services that would best suit you. Our Introductory Series is a 7-week course that will introduce you to Pilates and provide the strong foundation necessary for further training.  Because our classes are limited to 7 students, instructors can provide individualized guidance and attention.

If you’d prefer a one-on-one training experience, our Intro Private Lesson Package will familiarize you with Pilates training and technique, while offering a more personalized format. You can also partner Private Lessons with Introductory Series, for a more specialized training format. Our private lesson packages are competitively priced, and you’ll have the flexibility of creating your own schedule. We recommend all of our new clients come in for a tour our studio, to learn more about our benefits and how Pilates training at Vitality is unique. Once we learn more about you, your fitness goals and scheduling needs we’ll recommend the class that will best fit your needs.

What if I have an injury?

Most adults have experiences some form or moderate or severe injury in their lives.   If you have an injury that is currently bothering you or you are concerned about aggravating a past injury please call and speak with one of our instructors.  We can guide you to the appropriate service whether it is a small progressive group class, private lessons or sessions with our Pilates-Based Physical Therapist.  For those interested exclusively in group classes we can sometimes accommodate for an injury within the session as our classes are so small.  This is determined on an individual basis and depends on many factors specific to you and your injury.   Please call to schedule a phone consultation. 

I'd like to continue my study of Pilates, but am new to Vitality, how do I start?

If you have studied Pilates at another studio, and would like to move to Vitality, we recommend you call and talk to us about your experience level. We will be able to evaluate how your previous training will fit into our class structure, and recommend the class or package that is right for you.

Does Vitality offer a Pilates Teacher Training and Certification Program?

Yes we do!  Vitality has been training Pilates instructors since 2004.
